NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – Old school music set the mood for the city of North Miami’s second annual “Music in the Plaza” concert. This was the city’s annual opportunity to give back to community residents and to bring them together for Black History month. “It is a time where we’re able to celebrate together as one and enjoy all of what the city of North Miami has to offer,” said Black History Month Chair, Deputy City Manager Arthur H. Sorey.
MOCA Plaza was filled with attendees on Saturday, February 25. The plaza was laced with vendors with everything from food to novelty items. DJ Hercules and Jill Tracey from Cox Media got the crowd primed for a day of fun. Attendees danced and sang the night away to hip-hop artist Chubb Rock, R&B singer Case, legendary vocalist Deniece Williams and R&B songstress Monica.
During Monica’s set she wanted fans to know exactly how appreciative she was for the outpour of support from the City of North Miami. “Give it up for the Councilman (Alix Desulme). I appreciate you for acknowledging me … To come tonight and be recognized is something special and is kind of dope.”
The City of North Miami Black History Month Committee members are Deputy City Manager Sorey, chair and honorary cochairs, Mayor Smith Joseph and Councilman Alix Desulme. The city is already in plans for 2018 to be an unforgettable experience.
