MIAMI – Founded on the belief that “Travel Awakens Leaders,” the Nyah Project is currently seeking diverse youth to apply for its free summer fellowship in South Africa and Namibia. The project’s premise is to develop youth leaders through transformative experiences abroad. Each year, the program selects a talented cohort of teens from underserved communities as Nyah Project Fellows.

After reflecting on her experience, Parvati Santos, a 2015 Nyah Fellow said, “My Nyah Fellow experience made me realize that the limit, the boundary, the line that I set for myself does not exist … the impossible is now possible.”

Nyah Fellows receive intensive training in human factor leadership, social entrepreneurship and experiential learning in amazing international destinations, including Ghana, Costa Rica, South Africa, and Namibia – at no cost to them.

“We firmly believe that young minds are like parachutes. They only function when open. I founded the Nyah Project to make transformative experiences, rooted in travel, accessible to all youth,” said Nyah founder Leigh-Ann Buchanan.

Nyah Fellows are exposed to prominent leaders from the civic, business and professional community, both locally and abroad.

“Along with amazing partners, we invest in the success of youth who are at at-risk of not maximizing their amazing potential. So far, the investment has paid off. 100% of our fellows are accepted into college or university and 90% of our fellows win academic or merit-based scholarships,” Buchanan shared.
