One hundred Broward County students experienced the joy of holiday shopping with Broward Sheriff Scott Israel, firefighters and deputies on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Walmart on West Broward Boulevard, during the Broward County Sheriff Office’s (BSO) annual holiday spree, Shop with the Sheriff. “The men and women of the Broward Sheriff’s Office are committed year-round to serving the people in their communities. Shop with the Sheriff is one of my favorite events and one of the many ways our BSO family gives back to some of our younger residents, thanks to the generosity of the Sheriff’s Foundation of Broward,” Israel said.

For nearly 20 years, BSO’s school resource deputy program has coordinated this event. Students, from elementary to high school, were selected from schools in the public safety agency’s districts based on several criteria, including their conduct and financial need.

The special shoppers were paired with BSO staff, firefighters and deputies from the departments of detention and law enforcement. Last year, 50 students received $100 gift cards. This year, that number was doubled to make the holidays special for 100 deserving youth.
