ALBANY, Ga. (AP) _ The president of the Albany chapter of the NAACP has been ousted over a dispute about how the statewide organization collects dues.
The Albany Herald reports that William Wright was removed from office this week by national NAACP President Benjamin Jealous.
In a letter, Jealous wrote that Wright held improper meetings and failed to turn over dues his members had paid to state and national officers of the civil rights organization.
Wright has been at odds with the Georgia statewide chapter for years because he says Albany chapter members shouldn't have to pay the same dues that people do in larger cities like Atlanta.
Wright can appeal the removal. He said he has to speak with his attorney before making a decision.
