TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ Florida Atlantic University is getting a $200,000 state grant to help produce and market cultured queen conch pearls.
That's one of 21 research commercialization grants totaling $2 million distributed Friday to 10 of Florida's 11 public universities.
Florida State University also is getting $200,000 for a baby pacifier project. It delivers timed interval music or voice sounds to stimulate sucking activity that's critical to a premature infant's survive and development.
The University of South Florida, meanwhile, is getting $65,000 for a new weight loss product.
Several of the projects focus on alternative energy.
