CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP)— Some of the hundreds of prayer quilts donated to Mother Emanuel AME Church after last year’s church shootings are being displayed in Charleston. The quilts are on display through Thursday at the Charleston Civil Design Center near the church.

In the days following the shootings on June 17 of last year, letters, flowers, candles and other items were left in front of the church. The church also received more than 400 quilts from around the world. The church plans to create an archive of items left as memorials after nine parishioners were shot and killed during a Bible study.

A white man, Dylann Roof, is charged in both state and federal courts. Both state and federal prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
