MIAMI – The importance of teaching youth to elevate their computer skills from the basic user knowledge to actually learning how to design and develop games continues to gain nationwide steam. Locally, an event sponsored by AT&T, the national nonprofit BlackGirlsCODE and Miami-based coding school Florida Vocational Institute will teach girls between ages seven and 17 to code games. The registration fee for the workshop is $35; however, FVI is sponsoring up to 50 students, who will be admitted to the workshop at no cost.

The workshop will focus on an introduction to game design and development. Its focus is to encourage student-driven learning, as participants think analytically, design, play and code in real-time. All BlackGirlsCODE workshops are geared towards introducing participants to the technological universe and encouraging them to pursue careers as tech creators and entrepreneurs.
