MIAMI— The Links, Incorporated is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of women committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry.
In June 1986, 28 professional local women chartered the Dade County (FL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. The organization has grown to 54 members and on Sunday, June 12, members will celebrate “30 Years of Friendship and Service on the High Seas” aboard the SeaFair Yacht in down- town Miami.
“We are so excited about our 30th chap- ter anniversary celebration,” said Chapter President Luvernice Croskey. “We are looking forward to a great time reminiscing, celebrating and raising funds for student scholarships.”
The Dade County Chapter was borne of the shared vision of its three chapter organizers Jessie Stinson, DoLores Washington, and Geneva Knowles Woodard; three former Miami-Dade County Public Schools educators and administrators. Professional women in the Dade County Chapter have volunteer a combined 2,500 hours of community service annually and raise money for student scholarships.
“We are passionate about community service,” said Knowles Woodard, chapter organizer and 30th anniversary chair. “From the very inception of the chapter our primary focus has been leveraging our skills, expertise and resources to make a positive impact in our community.”
Among its many programs and services, the Dade County (FL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated awards the Clara B. Knight Scholarship annually to a deserving graduating senior from Miami-Dade County Public Schools. The chapter also supports the Carmen Hamm Davis Endowed Scholarship Fund at Florida Memorial University.
