The Hernando County Sheriff's Office reports that the 38-year-old woman was taken to a nearby hospital, where she received 11 stitches, after Wednesday's attack.

The woman told deputies the wiener dogs were in her backyard when she noticed the three larger dogs chasing them.

A Great Dane and a German shepherd attacked one of the woman's dogs, and she was bitten when she tried to intervene.

A Labrador retriever that also got into the yard didn't participate in the attack.

Both Dachshunds were injured, and one of them died.

The larger dogs had apparently escaped through a hole in their owner's fence.
