FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.– The topic of restorative justice is gaining steam across the country as a viable solution to stem the flow of black children through the “school to prison” pipeline. Critics of heavy-handed school policing have called for an approach that prevents black students from being suspended or pushed into the juvenile justice system for infractions that often land their white counterparts with little, if any, punishment.

The Urban League of Broward County is the venue for a local forum that explores the restorative justice approach. The Justice Project, Operation: Trust will present an indepth discovery of the principles and practices of restorative justice, understanding victims’ rights and creating a culture of peace in urban communities. The forum will also address awareness of community needs, focus on accountability, obligations and solutions; emphasis on dialogue and community relations; addressing causes of troublesome behavior and community policing and engagement.
