american-flag_web.jpgEvolving from a purely labor union celebration to a holiday that marks the unofficial end of summer, Labor Day is now marked by picnics, backyard barbecues and family activities, celebrated this year on Monday, Sept. 5.

Throughout the tri-county area, federal, state and local offices will be closed. Malls and grocery stores will be open and garbage collection will follow the regular schedule.


Here’s what’s closed:

•    Post offices

•    Municipal, county, state and federal offices

•    Federal courts

•    Public schools

•    Colleges and universities

•    Libraries

•    Banks

Broward governmental offices will also be closed on Friday, Sept. 3, due to an budget-related unpaid employee furlough day.

All Broward County regional parks will be open from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and the parks' regular weekend and holiday gate entrance fee of $1.50 per person (children 5 and under free) will be in effect. 

Miami-Dade and Broward county buses will operate on the Sunday/holiday schedules.
