Each year as the holiday season approaches, we get to hear some of our favorite artists’ version of Christmas songs. Some songs were recorded decades ago but because of their awesomeness, stand the test of time. Others are newer entries that have earned their way onto our Christmas playlists.

We’ve compiled a list of the 10 greatest R & B Christmas songs of all time and yes, we realize that the Jackson 5 makes three appearances on the list.

luther10. Luther Vandross – Every Year, Every Christmas

Luther’s smooth vocals on this 1995 beauty makes you close your eyes and curl your toes, while putting you in the holiday spirit.

boyz2men9. Boyz II Men – Let It Snow

Brian McKnight wrote this doozy and the R&B quartet made it the perfect soundtrack for a holiday cuddle session with your boo.

8. Stevie Wonder – Someday at Christmas

Leave it to Brother Stevie to not only make a beautiful Christmas tune, but also a social commentary piece on social and political unrest in the U.S.

whitney7. Whitney Houston & The Georgia Mass Choir – Joy To The World

When she sang it in the 1997 film The Preacher’s Wife, Whitney had us on our feet. She and the gospel choir took the traditional song higher!

jackson5_26. The Jackson 5 – I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus

The song’s whimsy and the purity of Michael’s voice make this an endearing classic. You really have to try hard not to smile as you listen to it.

jackson5_15. The Jackson 5 – Give Love on Christmas Day

The Temptations, New Edition, Johnny Gill, and Faith Evans have covered this song, and we enjoy their versions, however, nothing tops Michael’s voice on the 1970’s original.

mariah-carey4. Mariah Carey – All I Want for Christmas Is You

The songbird made this 1994 tune an instant classic that is on rotation beyond the holiday season.

jackson5_33. The Jackson 5 – Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town

Even if you doubt about the reality of good ol’ Saint Nich’s arrival, the way Michael and his brothers sang it could make a believer out of you.

This rendition stirs your soul, especially when Dennis Edwards starts singing! You have to remind yourself that it really is a Christmas song.
