BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham Civil Rights Institute officials are planning a ceremony to honor an attorney and civil rights leader for his work in human rights.
Officials say Vernon L. Jordan will be presented with the Fred L. Shuttlesworth Human Rights Award Nov. 21 at the Alabama Theatre.
Jordan has worked with the NAACP in Georgia, the United Negro College Fund, the National Urban League and was an adviser to President Bill Clinton in the 1990s.
Organizers say the event begins at 7 p.m. and entertainment will be provided by singer-songwriter Smokey Robinson.
