5000 Role Models expands

Building on its success with thousands of young men of color in South Florida, the 5000 Role Models of Excellence program has been expanded and will launch in Duval County later this month. Developed by Congresswoman Frederica Wilson in 1994, the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project teaches young men of color about healthy living, responsibility, respect, and how to attain future goals.  The program will be implemented in 10 Jacksonville schools to include five middle and five high schools within the same feeder patterns. Young men from grades 6-12 will don the signature red ties and will have the opportunity to connect with successful adult mentors who will share experiences and offer guidance and educational support.  Duval County students identified by school administrators will participate in various cultural and educational experiences while serving as youth ambassadors.
