PEKIN, Ill. (AP) _ Pekin’s city finances are now viewable around the clock.

City officials have created a website allowing taxpayers to view 2,300 lines of city budget data.

The Pekin Daily Times reports (http://bit.ly/1MyegGQ ) a statement from city officials explains that the web page makes it easier to “explore how taxpayer money is collected and spent.”

City Manager Darin Girdler says the site allows the city to be as “transparent as possible.”

Pekin is one of 300 government bodies nationally that use the website through OpenGov.com.

City Clerk Sue McMillan says the site will help her office _ particularly with Freedom of Information requests which invariably come in after city council meetings. She says many questions can be answered by directing taxpayers to information on the site.
