CRYSTAL BEACH, Texas (AP) _ A utility that serves a strip of Texas along the Gulf of Mexico has advised consumers to boil their drinking water before consumption.

The Bolivar (BAH’-lee-vur) Peninsula Special Utility District issued the advisory Friday. Authorities did not provide a time frame for when the boil water order would be lifted.

The utility in Crystal Beach cites a problem with the filtration system and the quality of water released into a storage tank at a treatment plant.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality ordered the utility district to notify all customers to boil water used for drinking or cooking. Experts also suggest using bottled water until the boil notice is lifted.

The utility services more than 12,000 people in Galveston County.
