FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) _ Thirty-one Kentucky school districts have been added to a state program that allows school districts to use virtual or other non-traditional means of instruction when school is cancelled because of weather.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports (http://bit.ly/1Chd4SD) Boyle, Garrard, Madison, Mercer, Montgomery and Woodford counties are among the 31 counties added to the program, which ran on a pilot basis last school year and allowed students to learn from home on snow days. Jessamine County and 12 other districts will be added the following year.

All 13 school districts in last year’s pilot program met state criteria and were able to count the snow days as regular attendance days.

Districts in the program may include as many as 10 non-traditional instruction days as regular attendance days in its school calendar.
