MIAMI LAKES — In a National Rebuilding Day event sponsored by BankUnited, Rebuilding Together Broward brought together approximately 400 volunteers and dozens of local businesses to stabilize and revitalize approximately 16 homes of low-income homeowners living in the Collier City community of Pompano Beach.

BankUnited volunteers painted and rehabilitated the exterior of the home that Ralph Banks, a 77 year-old wheelchair-bound man, has lived in for 40 years and shares with his daughter and three grandchildren.

BankUnited Senior Executive Vice President Gerry Litrento was among the volunteers.

“BankUnited has two new branches in Pompano and this year our employees plan to donate 1,000 volunteer hours to local organizations in the communities we serve,” Litrento said.  “By restoring safe and healthy living conditions at no cost to homeowners, Rebuilding Together Broward improves the homes, the health of homeowners and their communities.”

National Rebuilding Month is a month-long call to service during the entire month of April, culminating with National Rebuilding Day, held on the last Saturday in April. One of more than 160 affiliates serving communities across the nation, Rebuilding Together Broward has rehabilitated more than 375 homes and community centers, investing more than $4 million into the community since 2003.
