MIAMI — Miami-Dade Economic Advocacy Trust (MDEAT) is hosting the agency’s first North Central Business Expo 6 p.m. today at the Joe Celestin Community Center, 1525 NW 135 St. in North Miami.

The community event will highlight approximately 65 businesses and provide participants the opportunity to speak with experts on area services; government agencies; food and catering establishments; entertainment; dentistry; and many more products. Live music, raffles, giveaways, and refreshments will be available for event-goers.

North Central Miami-Dade residents can become familiar with businesses in their community, and provides them with an update on available services and products. The expo will also provide local businesses networking opportunities with other business owners.

swimLessonCounty agencies will give swim lessons to children in public housing

MIAMI —Miami-Dade Public Housing and Community Development (PHCD) is partnering with Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces (PROS) to offer a Learn to Swim program in the summer for all the youths residing in public housing developments inclusive of Liberty Square, Gwen Cherry, Annie Coleman and Arthur Mays.

Working with PROS aquatic safety coordinator and the aquatic specialist, the children will learn a life skill by learning how to swim and prevent drowning; as well as, gaining one of the best forms of exercise because it works the heart, lungs and every group of muscles in the body. Classes are available on a first come, first serve basis for children between the ages of 6 and 17 years old.

LITTLE HAITI — With a growing number of locals and visitors seeking to experience and explore Greater Miami’s vibrant multicultural heritage neighborhoods, the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Multicultural Tourism Team, in partnership with the City of Miami and Little Haiti Cultural Complex will unveil the new Little Haiti Visitor Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The unveiling takes place 10 a.m. Monday. Free and open-to-the-public, the event will delight guests with musical entertainment, lite bites and refreshments.

Centrally located in the heart of Little Haiti, the new visitor center will provide visitors and residents with a resource for information on the attractions and happenings in Little Haiti as well as other heritage and multicultural neighborhoods throughout Greater Miami.  Additionally, the new visitor center will offer a wide variety of brochures on attractions and points of interest, maps, calendars of events, tours and special offerings throughout the year.  The Little Haiti Visitor Center will be open Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

WEST PALM BEACH —The Palm Beach Improv Comedy Club is assisting service members who have been injured in the line of duty in a special show tonight.

Proceeds from the Tickle The Troops Comedy Tour will be donated to the nonprofit organization Wounded Warrior Project (WWP.)

“Everyone at our Club is very excited to be a part of this Tour, and we are looking forward to a very successful fundraiser,” said Rene Harte, Improv General Manager.

Performing on the “Tickle The Troops Comedy Tour” is the tour founder and Navy veterans Chuck Kirkpatrick, and Rick Walters, along with comedian ventriloquist Mike Palma. Known as The Seaman of Comedy, they boast a combine 25 years of professional comedy experience.
