Florida Memorial Men’s & Women’s track and field team closed out a successful showing at The Sun Conference Championship on Sunday, as both teams finished among the top teams in the Conference. The women placed 7thoverall with 48 points, while the Men scored 57 points for 5th overall. The 2015 Sun Conference Championship was held on the campus of Embry-Riddle University in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Brittany Starling captured her first conference title crown by racing to first place in the 100-meter dash finals in 12.27 and 25.93 in the 200-meter for 6th placed. Gerrard Burrows shines in the men’s Discus Throw, taking 1st place in a throw of 47.21 meters and Gerrard Burrows also came with a 6th placed finish in the Men’s Shot Put with a toss of 13.16 meters.
The women’s 4 X 100 relay team consisting of Brittany Starling, Wilsandley Jacques,Mya Carr and Neugenia Joseph placed 5th in 50.20 and the women’s 4 X 400 relay team consisting of Brittany Starling, Wilsandley Jacques, Jayna Baldwin and Neugenia Joseph cross the finish line in a time of 4:18.36 for 5th placed.
In the Women’s Shot Put Eunique Byrd placed 3rd in a throw of 11.61m and had a throw of 28.85m in the Women’s Discus. Knight Corion placed second in the Men’s High Jump in a leap of 2.06m and Samuel Dorismond Placed 3rd in a leap of 1.91m.
Also performing well for the Lions was James Cochran, who achieved a season’s best in the 400m Hurdles in a time of 58.98 seconds and Rashard Jones ran a season’s best time of 102.57 seconds. In the Men’s Triple Jump Willi Anstral placed second in a leap of 13.45m and came back later to place 9th in the Men’s Long Jump in a leap of 6.01m. The Lions and Lady Lions picked up 21 All-Conference Team Honors and 2 Conference Titles.
Florida Memorial University Track and Field will return to action on April 27, 2015, when they Travel to Miramar, FL to take part in the Multicultural Games.
