FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) – New York Jets wide receiver David Nelson hosted a foster child from Florida who made national headlines with his plea to be adopted.
Davion Only, a 15-year-old boy who was born in prison and raised in foster care, spent the weekend in New York as a guest of Nelson.
Davion and a friend toured Manhattan, including trips to Rockefeller Center, FAO Schwartz and Central Park, and met with Nelson and other players Sunday before the Jets’ game against the Cleveland Browns at MetLife Stadium.
Davion stood in front of a church congregation in St. Petersburg in October and said, “I’ll take anyone,” in a plea to be adopted. Nelson, whose nonprofit organization I’mME helps orphaned children, said he needed to do something once he heard Davion’s story.
