kite_web.jpgMIAMI — People of all ages are encouraged to come out to fly their kites, make their own kites for free or purchase an already-made kite at the 21st annual “Kitetoberfest” from noon – 5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 20.

The skies over Haulover Park, 10800 Collins Ave., Miami-Dade, will display an array of colors and kite figures as the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department and Skyward Kites present the annual kite festival.

The event will feature paper kite-building classes and kite demonstrations from longtime kite enthusiasts. In addition, there will be kite-flying competitions for both children and adults. Prize categories for the kite competitions range from the highest-flying and most unusual kites to the best homemade kite and the kite with the longest tail.

Shoes with socks are recommended for open field activities. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase. Event admission is free.  There is no fee for the kite classes or competitions. Parking is $6.
