The decision follows a previous vote to move out of Opa-locka’s current municipal complex in Town Center Properties after negotiations for the city to buy the building stalled.

The move to the Northwest 135th Street location, in accord with the vote, will be for only one year. The temporary move allows the city time to build a permanent location for its city hall and administrative offices, officials said.

The city’s library and utility payment center will remain at the 780 Fisherman Street location. City officials estimated the cost for the move is expected not to exceed $80,500 with monthly rental payments of $12,673.33 in the new location.

“This is a temporary move while the city constructs a permanent city hall building,” said City Manager Kelvin L. Baker Sr.
