Originally built in 1979, the Crystal Lakes apartment development at 2545 N.W. 207th St. in Miami Gardens consists of 491 units in 24 two-story garden-style buildings on 23 acres.

Officials say the development’s demographics are approximately 50 percent African American, 30 percent Hispanic and 20 White. “Crystal Lakes is very comfortable and safe,” said Kenisha Cliett, a resident and mother of two children. “It feels more like a community, and I really like the big outdoor space for the kids.”

Officials said the $20 million total investment includes the purchase price of $14.35 million plus the renovation work on the buildings such as mechanical and roofing systems, facade, site improvements and in-unit upgrades such as flooring, bathrooms, kitchens and appliances.

“There is tremendous demand in the north part of Miami-Dade County, and south Broward County, for reasonably priced rental housing that includes a complete choice of amenities and serves families as well,” said Yamal Yidios Char, Ytech president and CEO.
