FORT LAUDERDALE — West Broward High School English teacher Elizabeth Watts is one of 96 educators recruited nationwide as “Master Teachers,” who will create lesson plans aligned with the Common Core State Standards being implemented in Florida and across the country.
This is Dr. Watts’ 24th year in education. She currently teaches Advanced Placement Literature & Composition and Honors English at West Broward High in Pembroke Pines, where she is also the 12th-grade team leader in the English Department.
Watts is a former English education professor and Broward School District administrator. In her spare time, she teaches English as a second language at Broward College.
“Teaching English is my passion,” said Watts. “I’m very excited to be part of this project.” The mission of BetterLesson Master Teacher Project is to connect teachers to teachers and measurably improve instruction. The project is intended to create Common Core-aligned courses, units and lessons that will be free to teachers everywhere.
The Master Teachers will share both the “how” (instructional strategies and classroom management procedures) and the “what” (complete lessons, units and courses) behind their successful teaching. The project provides recognition and professional opportunities to exceptional teachers around the country.
The BetterLesson Master Teacher Project, in collaboration with the National Association (NEA), is financed by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
