Willie B. Butler, the real “MaDear,” the embodiment of the African-American matriarch, recently turned 100, and her family planned a big happy birthday celebration.
Born in Fort Gaines, Ga. on Aug. 11, 1913, Butler moved her family to Broward County in the 1940s and still lives in the same house in Dillard Homes.
She was a homemaker most of her life, but also worked in Broward schools, and has survived her husband and some of her ten children.
Butler was an only child, but because she lives, the family has five generations still alive.
