FORT LAUDERDALE — The Urban League of Broward County recently named nine people to its board of directors. Among the new board members are Broward Superintendent of Schools James F. Notter and Broward Circuit Judge Elijah Williams.
South Florida Times Publisher Robert G. Beatty, Esq. has also joined the board.
The Jan. 23 Urban League annual meeting at the AutoNation tower in downtown Fort Lauderdale, sponsored jointly by AutoNation and WSVN-7, focused on “imagining the possibilities” for the future of the nation, the Broward County community and the Urban League.
The Urban League continues its work to shore up funding and serve more children, youth and families than ever before. New members will officially begin their service to the non-profit in February.
“This is a truly amazing group of people,’’ said Germaine Smith-Baugh, the Urban League of Broward County’s president and CEO, in a prepared statement. “Each brings a unique business and community perspective and will add to our already talented group of board members. They are all enthusiastic about the organization and ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work. As a non-profit executive, you can’t ask for more than that.”
Current Urban League Board Chairman Dennis Smith of Tripp Scott, LLP., said in a prepared statement, “I’m thrilled that we have a group of diverse individuals who care about the mission and vision of the Urban League and want to be a part of it. It will make us stronger as an organization to have such talent sitting around the table.”
Other new members include Robert Perkins, vice president of Talent Management and Inclusion for Burger King Corp.; Corey Alston, managing director of SBK Brooks Investment Corp; Christine Madsen, founder of Mad4Marketing, Inc., a marketing, public relations and advertising firm; Dawn Stagliano, government and community affairs manager for Comcast Cable; Hamish C. Reed, account manager for infusion therapy at Hospira Worldwide, a pharmaceutical and medication delivery company; and Mercedes Hanabergh, vice president of HMed Corp, which provides geriatric and nursing home care.
