WEST PALM BEACH — An event hosted by the Palm Beach County School District and the Classroom Teachers Association (CTA) to welcome 700 new public school teachers, is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on Aug. 8th and 9th. Set for John I. Leonard High School in Greenacre, TeacherFest will convene new teachers hired for public schools around the county to learn more about a wide range of topics including readiness for the first days of the school year, available support services, and information about area organizations that can assist them in getting settled in Palm Beach County.
“New teachers have so much to absorb and process in order to get ready for their students,” said Gina Stafford of the district’s Professional Development Department. “So many of them are also relocating here and we believe TeacherFest is a way to give them a bit of a jumpstart toward a smooth school-year launch.”
The School District of Palm Beach County is the eleventh largest in the nation and the fifth largest in the state of Florida with 185 schools, serving more than 177,000 students who speak 150 languages and dialects. Also the largest employer in Palm Beach County, the district has nearly 21,000 associates, including 12,627 teachers.
