HOLLYWOOD — The Hollywood Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA)’s Downtown Hollywood Mural Project (DHMP) is celebrating its 10th mural with Tatiana Suarez. Launched in August 2012 under the helm of CRA Executive Director Jorge Camejo, the program milestone coincides with the public art program’s one-year anniversary.
Suarez, a champion in the male-dominated street art genre, plans to bring her decidedly girlish, enchanted style to the downtown Hollywood cityscape.
Slated during monthly ArtWalk on Saturday, Aug.17, from 7 – 10 p.m. at 2020 Harrison St., she will join an elite group of contributors including Jessy Nite, Eddie Mendieta, 2alas, Michelle Weinberg and Rob Robi.
Suarez portrays dreamlike interpretations of human qualities in her figurative paintings. Subjects appear as if they are under water, frozen in stillness.
The project marks the Miami-native’s return from New York to her studio space in South Florida, on the heels of her recent release of custom-designed Reebok Classics for Cool J’s.
“Street art and art accessible in public spaces have the power to bring unique beauty and culture to a community,” said Suarez. “I believe it offers a sense of awakening to people that might not be familiar with the art-making process, and creates an opening to gain insight into the artist, as well as the idea and message behind their work.”
The Downtown Hollywood Mural Project is centralized in the Live Music District, running along Hollywood Boulevard and Harrison Street between 21st Avenue and Young Circle. Downtown Hollywood ArtWalk takes place on the third Saturday of every month from 7 – 10 p.m.
Future dates include Sept. 21, Oct. 19 and Nov. 16, replete with live music, dining and opening exhibitions at more than a dozen participating establishments.
There is no charge for on-street parking between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. and free parking is available in three-hour increments between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Garage parking also is available at $1/hour at 20th Avenue Municipal Garage (between Harrison Street and Van Buren Street) or 19th Avenue Municipal Garage (between Tyler Street & Polk Street).
