HONOLULU (AP) _ President Barack Obama's sister has been given a civil rights award in Honolulu.
Maya Soetoro-Ng (so-TOR-oh ING) accepted the Martin Luther King Jr. Award received the award Sunday night just after returning from inaugural festivities for her brother in Washington.
Soetoro-Ng was greeted by a throng of fellow Honolulu residents.
She thanked the people of Hawaii for helping to change politics in America. Hawaii voters gave Obama his biggest margin of any state.
Soetoro-Ng was one of four individuals and groups receiving the King award.
Others include longtime civil rights activist Kat Brady, University of Hawaii basketball coach Bob Nash and the African American Lawyers Association of Hawaii.
