ACCUSED THUG
Clayton Phillips, 33, of Lake Park is accused of breaking into the home of a woman he has known for more than 20 years, raping her repeatedly at knifepoint and robbing her of her belongings. He is also accused of stealing her car. Phillips was arrested a short time afterward and is being held in the Palm Beach County Jail on multiple charges, with no bail.
CENTER EXPANDING
The Louis and Anne Green Memory & Wellness Center, which is located on the campus of Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, is expanding to accommodate its growing number of clients. The center acts as a research and daycare facility for people suffering from mental impairments, stroke, Parkinson’s, dementia and head injuries. It started seven years ago with just 20 patients. MOM JAILED
Kimberly Clark Kiernan, 39, of Palm Beach Shores is accused of throwing a party with 26 minors at her condo, where, according to police, a 7-year-old child was found locked in a room. Police said Kiernan was so drunk she barricaded the door when officers responded to her condo on a noise complaint and urinated on herself. Officers kicked in the door and found beer and alcohol bottles littering the floors. She was arrested and is facing a number of charges
CARETAKER CHARGED
Anthony Kehle, 75, of Jupiter was arrested after being accused of stealing $94,000 from a man he was taking care of and
using it to fund his own lavish lifestyle. Palm Beach sheriff’s detectives said the victim, who died last year, suffered from Alzheimer’s and was left alone to fend for himself for days on end. The investigation began in 2010 after the victim’s niece visited him and discovered his bills were not being paid. She also found invoices for trips to South America, spa treatments and expensive outings. Book ’em, Danno!

Michael Jackson, 21, of Fort Lauderdale was arrested after allegedly burglarizing a car that was parked in a beach area garage. The car turned out to be a staged police decoy vehicle with video capabilities. It also has SmartWater CSI installed. SmartWater is a colorless, odorless fluid that is automatically sprayed on a suspect and can be detected days later under ultraviolet light. Jackson is seen on video breaking into the car and rummaging through its contents, when the SmartWater sprayed on him from a hidden canister. He wiped it off and sniffed it to determine what it was and went back to pillaging through the car, police said.

BRAZEN VIOLENCE
Broward Sheriff’s detectives are seeking information about a brazen shooting that took place in a northwest Pompano Beach neighborhood. Christopher Singleton, 25, Rashaad Payne, 23, and Joshua Childs, 23, were playing dominoes in the driveway of 54-year-old Alphonso Wright’s home when four masked men drove up and opened fire. All four were shot, Childs fatally. The attack happened in the 1600 block of Northwest Seventh Lane. Authorities have no motive for the shooting. Investigators ask anyone with information to call Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-8477.

U.S. Rep. Joe Garcia toured the U.S. Department of Labor’s Homestead Job Corps Center and spoke to students about getting their education and obtaining skills needed in today’s workforce. The department operates 125 Job Corps Centers around the nation. They teach students a variety of trades and assist them in finding employment once they complete the training.
NEW INVESTIGATION
With an election taking place in November, Homestead Mayor Steve Bateman, who is seeking re-election, is dealing with the news that he is the target of yet another criminal investigation. Prosecutors with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office are looking into a $125 an hour consulting contract Bateman has with the nonprofit Community Health of South Florida Inc. (CHI) which allegedly was never disclosed to his fellow City Council members. Homestead has several issues that could end up impacting CHI, which raises the question of a conflict of interest.

State Sen. Oscar Braynon II will be the keynote speaker at St. Agnes’ Episcopal Church’s annual Men’s Day, an event which is traditionally held in black churches. HOMELAND SECURITY
Secretary Janet Napolitano and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security have apparently dropped plans to open an office in Tavernier. The plan drew opposition from environmentalists and residents. The federal agency did not submit its application to the county’s Planning Commission by the deadline last week. No explanation was given.
ARRESTED AGAIN
Ryan Allen Witten, 26, a member of the U.S. Coast Guard who was convicted last month on charges of prowling and peeping into windows, is now facing unrelated child pornography charges. FBI agents said they found pictures of naked children in “sexual poses” in his car and took him into custody.
FLIGHT NUT
Richard Calderoni, 50, of Tampa was arrested after allegedly causing a disturbance on a Silver Airways flight to Key West International Airport. The authorities said Calderoni refused to turn off his electronic device during takeoff and when a flight attendant asked him to do so, he became belligerent, swearing and trying to trip the attendant with his leg, at one point. When the plane landed, he was taken into custody by U.S. Border Protection agent and Monroe County deputies.
