TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ Florida Gov. Rick Scott is backing a contentious bill that would bar local governments from enacting their own ordinances on benefits for employees. Scott signed the bill (HB 655) and 59 other bills on Friday before he left the country on a week-long trade mission to Paris.
The Republican governor on Friday also vetoed 2 bills, including one that would have raised the cost of the wildflower specialty license plates. He also vetoed a measure that would have created a public records exemption for email addresses listed on voter registration applications.
Scott in his veto message said addresses of voters have traditionally been public records, which ensures voters have access to election-related materials.
The benefits bill had been sparked by a push in Orange County to require mandatory paid-sick time for employees.
