TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – A Florida political consultant wants to keep private nearly 2,000 pages of documents connected to a redistricting lawsuit. Attorneys for Pat Bainter, the owner of Gainesville-based firm Data Targeting, argue in court filings that the consulting firm is being targeted because it does work for Republicans.
The filing says the information is irrelevant to the ongoing lawsuit.
A Leon County circuit judge is scheduled on Friday to consider the request from Bainter and Data Targeting.
The documents are being sought by a coalition of groups challenging Florida's current congressional districts.
The lawsuit contends state legislators violated the "Fair Districts'' standards that mandate that districts can't be drawn to protect incumbents or members of a certain party.
An appeals court has turned down a request by the groups to question legislators.
