MIAMI — Despite suffering season-ending injuries, three of the key players — and 2013 graduates — of Miami Dade College’s Lady Sharks basketball received full scholarships to Florida A&M University (FAMU) and were signed to FAMU’s division one women’s basketball team.
AnnMarie Harris suffered reconstruction knee surgery and also had to cope with the news of her mother’s breast cancer but
finished the year on the dean’s list. Harris, a first team All Southern Conference Team Selection, was also named an FCCAA Player of the Week.
Sierra Lark sustained a season ending shoulder injury early in last term, while she was ranked No. 6 in the nation in rebounding.
Adenike Dawodu also suffered a season ending knee injury. For her performance during the Southern Conference, Dawodu was honored as Second Team All Southern Conference Team and was named FCCAA Player of the Week several times.
The three players are part of an academic track record established by the Lady Sharks in academics and athletics.
The nationally recognized team, which is coached by Susan Summons, has maintained a graduation rate of 93 percent.
