FORT LAUDERDALE — Seven outstanding Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) seniors were named National Achievement Scholarship winners and will receive a $2,500 scholarship for their undergraduate studies.
Each year, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation awards scholarships to African-American students who have excelled in academics and demonstrated the potential for success in college, including seven from six Broward public schools:
• Arabella Jones of Sunrise, Plantation High School
• Ashleigh R. Morgan of Parkland, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School
• Artavia K. Phillips of Miramar, Pembroke Pines Charter High School
• Taliyah N. Roach of Pembroke Pines, Pembroke Pines Charter High School
• Kaylen Sanders of Pembroke Pines, Flanagan High School
• Tanya E. Thomas of Miramar, Miramar High School
• Jervon A. Wright of Coconut Creek, College Academy at Broward College
“It’s very gratifying to see our students earn national recognition that acknowledges their hard work and commitment to academic excellence,” said Superintendent Robert W. Runcie.
