Miami – Jazz lovers turned out in droves on Friday, May 3 for the latest in Miami-Dade Commissioner Barbara Jordan’s Music in the Park series.
The free jazz concert scheduled for Ives Estates Park was moved to Dr. Michael Krop Senior High School’s gymnasium because of inclement weather.
“We thought the rain would literally dampen our event,” said Jordan. “But true jazz aficionados turned out en masse to witness the legendary Melton Mustafa’s performance. We were also treated to the sounds of The Elements, which is a younger jazz band that wooed the crowd.”
The Music in the Park series was co-hosted by the Sunshine Jazz Organization, which has sponsored jazz events in South Florida for more than 25 years and advocated on behalf of the genre through their website and community events.
“This was a great partnership,” said Jordan. “It takes associations such as the Sunshine Jazz Organization to help bring these types of events to the community.”
