The former Riviera Beach City Council member and founder of the iconic McCray’s Backyard BBQ was laid to rest at Royal Palm Memorial Garden. Residents were treated to a farewell community barbecue at the Dan Calloway Recreation Complex in Riviera Beach also on Saturday to mark his passing. The bridge on Congress Avenue that connects Riviera Beach to West Palm Beach was dedicated to McCray in 2010, the sign reading ‘Herman McCray — A True Bridge Builder.’ A family member said McCray suffered a massive stroke April 12 and died April 16. He was 72.
