OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – The University of Nebraska at Omaha's Department of Black Studies is wrapping up its 12th annual Malcolm X Festival that celebrates the life of the late civil rights leader.
This year's festival began Tuesday and will wrap up Wednesday on the UNO's campus. The theme is "It's Not Where You're From; It's Where You're At: Space, Place, and Time in the African-American Experience.''
Author, motivational speaker and UNO graduate Tunette Powell will give a lecture titled, "How Race and Place Intersect and Interact.''
All events are in the Milo Bail Student Center Ballroom at UNO and are free and open to the public.
Malcolm X was born Malcolm Little in Omaha in 1925. He was assassinated in 1965.
