The black-tie event attended by 530 guests was co-chaired by Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill and his wife Lauren, as well as Noreen Salah Burpee, executive director of The Salah Foundation. Adam Kuperstein, NBC 6 News co-anchor, served as master of ceremonies. The Salah Foundation was the event’s title sponsor and Turner Construction Company was the presenting sponsor.

Guests enjoyed a champagne reception, silent and live auctions, dinner and dancing.  The live auction featured items such as a weekend in New York City and a pair of diamond and sapphire earrings donated by Levinson Jewelers.

The evening culminated with more than $158,000 raised for a new Virtual Hospital during a bid call. The Virtual Hospital, to be located at Broward Health North, will consist of a space where thousands of nurses will work with lifelike simulated patients to develop, perfect and maintain their skills.

As the only hospital-based program in southeast Florida, the Virtual Hospital will provide both new and experienced nurses throughout the Broward Health system with hands-on training. The design will consist of a flexible simulation room that can be used for adult, pediatric and OB simulations.

Organizers said the proceeds raised from the event will also benefit a number of critical programs and projects at each Broward Health hospital, including women’s wellness services at Broward Health Coral Springs, the purchase of a Giraffe OnmiBed for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Chris Evert Children’s Hospital, upgrades to the registration area at Broward Health Imperial Point, the purchase of medical equipment to assist stroke patients at Broward Health North and the purchase of digital imaging equipment at Broward Health Weston.

The Broward Health Foundation is the fundraising arm of Broward Health, one of the ten largest public healthcare systems in the nation, whose mission is to improve the health of the community by supporting the initiatives of Broward Health.

“The inaugural Broward Health Ball exceeded my highest expectations,” said Noreen Salah Burpee. “I personally extend a big thank you to everyone that contributed to this event and I’m looking forward to next year’s ball.”

Additional event sponsors included ARAMARK Healthcare, Florida True Health, Rick Case Automotive Group, Pediatrix Medical Group, 21st Century Oncology, ANF Group, Northwestern Mutual, BCC Financial, Preferred Medical Plan, Med Assets and Lifestyle magazine.
