DELRAY BEACH — Genesis Community Health, a nonprofit health clinic dedicated to serving residents of all economic levels, is helping area families take preventative steps to manage their health at an upcoming health fair.
The Health Fair is set for Saturday, April 6 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., at the Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 510 S.W. Eighth Ave., Delray Beach.
Officials said the Health Fair is open to residents countywide and will offer physical examinations, breast examinations, pap smears (on a first-come first-served basis), blood pressure checks, glucose testing, BMI, vision checks, HIV testing and health education seminars on diabetes, domestic violence and chronic diseases.
The Health Fair is being held in partnership with Boca Raton Regional Hospital, the Palm Beach County Haitian Nurses Association and the Lady of Perpetual Help Church.
Genesis Community Health is a Florida 501(c)3 nonprofit organization created to promote and provide health care to people of all economic levels, with special sensitivity to the needs of economically disadvantaged people of diverse cultural backgrounds in and around Palm Beach County.
Genesis was formed in 2009 in response to a community needs assessment conducted by a consulting group that identified Boynton Beach as an area of need and that there was a severe lack of access to primary care for residents.
This need was based upon evaluation of services available, high incidence of poverty and uninsured in the area, and high usage of the emergency room for primary care services.
Genesis is an access point of care for patients who traditionally do not have adequate access to the health care system. Genesis is currently funded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Quantum Foundation.
“We aim to provide an opportunity for families to be aware and educated on their health and how to prevent conditions before they become problematic,” said DeAnna Warren, executive Director of Genesis Health. “Many thanks to our sponsors and partners for enabling Genesis to bring these services directly to clients from throughout Palm Beach County.”
