The hilarious comedy cabaret was to benefit Gilda’s Club, a cancer support community, and to honor SNL comedian Gilda Radner, who lost her battle with ovarian cancer in 1989 at age 42. Radner’s humor sustained her through her cancer journey.

The mission of the free, nonprofit Gilda’s Club, named in honor of the comedian, is to ensure that people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community.

The innovative program is considered an essential complement to medical care, providing networking and support groups, workshops, education and social activities.

Gilda’s Club South Florida has been providing programs to those living with cancer and their family and friends since 1997.

The March 16 benefit event for cancer patients and their families featured dinner, a silent auction and live auction led by auctioneer Gordon Latz. Comedians Tom Ryan and Brian Bradley headlined the comedy show that delighted the audience.

“Gilda’s Club provides a safe, comforting environment where people going through their cancer journey can share their hopes and fears and even some laughs,” said Gilda’s Club CEO, Shelley Goren. “This event reminds us that sometimes laughter can be the best medicine.”

Live from South Florida … It’s Saturday Night! was co-chaired by Dana Panza Mcdonald of Panza, Maurer & Maynard, P.A., and Joel Shulman of Greenspoon Marder Attorneys At Law, and presented by Broward Health.  Additional sponsors included Interstate Asphalt, Memorial Healthcare System, Nova Southeastern University, the Richard and Marianne Reinisch Foundation, and Signature Grand.
