Inspired by American and Olympic champion figure skater Michelle Kwan and encouraged by her parents, Spence skated her way to a host of top finishes during outings as a competitive skater.

In 2008, with more than eight years of competitive ice skating under her belt, the Springfield, Tenn. native packed up her skates and postponed her studies in Athletic Training at Tennessee State University to become a principal skater in Disney On Ice presents

Worlds of Fantasy, as Iridessa, the first black fairy friend of Tinkerbell. Currently touring with Disney On Ice presents Dare to Dream, Spence says she enjoys the crowd and the spotlight when she’s performing and wants the audience to “feel the story I’m telling through my skating.”

The show features all the popular Disney characters in the form of figure skaters. They give stunning performances filled with great music, dance and lots of excitement. Dare to Dream tells the on-ice stories of The Princess and the Frog, Cinderella and Rapunzel from the movie Tangled, the Disney versions of the classic fairy tale.

Spence plays Tiana from The Princess and the Frog as Disney continues its outstanding tradition of bringing its movies to life. That includes impressive aerial acrobatics reminiscent of Cirque de Soleil. Audiences get to boogie to the beat of the bayou with Princess

Tiana and Prince Naveen in a magical, musical journey that all begins with a fateful kiss. In addition to Disney’s first African-American princess, there are appearances throughout the show of old favorites Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy, while other Disney princesses and their princes make cameo appearances in a spectacular grand finale.

The characters and costumes are eye-popping, the set backdrops amazingly realistic on ice, the music and dancing draw viewers right into the show.

And amid the animals and evil witches, hair-raising escapades and uproarious adventure are truly talented skaters such as Spence, full of energy, strength and grace.
