RIVIERA BEACH —The Riviera Beach Market at the Marina was inaugurated Dec. 15 with festivities throughout the day ranging from live entertainment by local jazz, reggae and Latin music artists, to children’s activities, a pet friendly area and cooking demonstrations.
The new green market, which is free and open to the public, will run from 2 – 7 p.m. on Saturdays through March 9, 2013 in front of the Riviera Beach Municipal Marina, 200 E. 13th St. (13th Street and Broadway).
The marketplace will focus on seafood, the organizers say, but also promises an abundance of locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods and other prepared foods, as well as such specialties as handmade candles & soaps, arts & crafts, jewelry, herbs & spices, and plants.
The Riviera Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), which was established by the City Council in 1984 to guide the city in its redevelopment efforts and to eliminate slum and blight within the Community Redevelopment Area, kicked off the market’s inaugural season with a grand opening featuring a ribbon cutting by Riviera Beach City Commissioner Shelby Lowe. “The Riviera Beach Market at the Marina will be without a doubt, the best place to get fresh, quality food at affordable prices in our area,” he said.
Vendor spaces are being offered with special opening season incentives including a 10 percent discount for spaces reserved for the entire season. Entertainment booking and sponsorship opportunities are also available, officials say, and opportunities will also be provided for local nonprofits to promote their causes.
Officials call the green market a prelude to a Riviera Beach Public Market, which is supported by the Palm Beach County Commission. The state-designated full-service public market, a planned element of the Marina District South Redevelopment Project, will feature fresh produce and foods, seven days a week.
Officials said they expect the opening day fun to be eclipsed only by the wholesome food choices for area families, the support for local farmers and fishermen, the encouragement for more people to visit and the overall benefits to the local economy.
