MIAMI — Within Overtown’s Historic St. Agnes’ Episcopal Church at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9, the holiday season will be ushered in with what has become an annual, spirit-filled holiday concert: the seventh Overtown Holiday Spectacular.
Amidst a mix of neo-classical and Mission-style elements, the home of one of Miami’s oldest African-American congregations, at 1750 N.W. Third Ave., hosts an event that draws upwards of 1,200.
This annual free (no tickets needed) concert is presented by the award-winning Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Christ Community Arts Program (CAP) Conservatory for the Arts and its Young Musicians’ Junior & Intermediate Orchestras led by April Liberty, Advanced Chamber Ensemble conducted by Madeline Neely, and ALL-STAR Jazz Ensemble conducted by Daniel Strange.
Organist Dr. Gregory Taylor joins in to round out a holiday program of classical and jazz music that has toes tapping, spirits soaring, and St. Agnes’ pipe organ (and everyone) singing! It’s a musical event that will knock stockings off in a perfect family outing.
