POMPANO BEACH — A Crystal Lake Middle School security specialist, who was captured on surveillance video in an altercation with a 12-year-old female student earlier this year, has now been suspended from the school after allegedly getting into a physical confrontation with another student.
Trevor C. Allen, who monitors the campus at the Pompano Beach school, was reassigned on Nov. 1 pending the outcome of an investigation into an alleged physical altercation with Tamera Gordon, also 12.
Tracy Clark, public information officer for the Broward County School District confirmed Allen has been reassigned away from the school pending an investigation.
Clark did not provide further details.
However, according to sources, the incident occurred Oct. 25 after Gordon walked out of her class after being denied permission to go to the bathroom. She was intercepted in the hallway by Allen, who allegedly slammed her into a wall while subduing her. The altercation was supposedly witnessed by Myriam Gustave, a reading teacher who happened to be in the hallway at the time.
Allen was also involved in a March 28 altercation with Raenesha Donald which was recorded by school surveillance cameras.
Sources said Raenesha and Tamera were taken from their classrooms by Greg Brown, a Broward Sheriff’s deputy who serves as the school resource deputy, on Nov. 7. They were taken to meet with an investigator who questioned and took photographs of them.
Raenesha’s father Robert Donald said he was unaware of any investigation and that he did not consent to his daughter being questioned or photographed.
“We don’t know what’s going on. She doesn’t know who these people are and they didn’t tell her and she is scared to death,” Donald said.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office’s Child Protective Investigations Section (CPIS) handles child abuse investigations for the Department of Children and Families, as well as the school district.
“In general, police do not need parental consent to speak to a victim or a suspect, regardless of their age. But I don’t know what happened in this case, nor do I know if BSO was involved,” said Jim Leljedal, director of media relations for the sheriff’s office.
Leljedal said he would check whether CPIS is involved in this case but he had not gotten back to the the South Florida Times by publishing time.
Sources however, said CPIS, along with school district detectives, have been at Crystal Lake Middle interviewing witnesses and taking statements. It is unclear whether the investigation includes the more recent alleged altercation or both.
Peter Hanna, attorney for the Donald family, filed a bullying complaint over the March 28 incident on the school’s website. In a mandatory response that is required by school district policy and state law, the response is unsigned and does not have the name and title of the person who made the reply.
Hanna said he had not heard from the district.
“I would think they would be glad to address a situation as serious as this but we’ve heard nothing,” Hanna said.
There is no indication how long the Allen investigation is expected to take. This week he was still listed on the school’s website as its security specialist. His personnel record was not immediately available. He has worked for the district since March 2002 and currently earns $36,558 annually.
