Chapter officials say the event will culminate a yearlong effort to celebrate its 75th Diamond Anniversary with a gala like no other, including a weeklong affair displaying the past works, history and contributions of the fraternal organization.

They note that Alphas are about “Manly Deeds, Scholarship, and Love for All Mankind.”

The Beta Beta Lambda chapter, chartered in November 1937 by eight members of Alpha who lived in or were from Miami, has been five-time National Chapter of the Year, three-time Host Chapter for the National Convention and home of the 1994 National Brother of the Year.

Anderson Elridge III is the new president of the chapter that from its inception has provided leadership through its service projects, mentoring programs for high school and foster care boys, community cleanups, and hosting of events throughout the years.

Over the past year,  the chapter’s greatest achievement, through the Beta Beta Lambda Alpha Education Foundation, was raising $100,000 locally, and members of the Miami Chapter arranged additional two $1 million donations by two nationally-known foundations — The Knight Foundation and ExxonMobil Foundation — for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial.

The memorial, located between the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials on the national mall in Washington, DC, was officially dedicated on Oct. 16, 2011.

The cost was estimated at $120 million to build and maintain. The memorial to the civil rights leader is a monumental expression that will educate young people and future generations about Dr. King and his accomplishments.
